Chromatique

On one of these “Wonders of Nature” programs they showed a video of an antelope giving birth to a young one somewhere in darkest Africa. The video had been submitted by a lady; a lover of nature. The birth was messy but quick, and after a ten minute struggle with its weakness the young one was standing unsteadily next to its mom.

Having shown the miracle of life, the camera panned over to the cheetah lying close by under a tree, waiting and ready to pounce. With a few bounding leaps, the cheetah was on the baby deer, jaws firmly clenched around its throat. The mother feebly attempted to chase away the cheetah but was ignored. It was all over.

At the end of the clip, the women is overheard to say to her companion: “oh darling, this is what nature is about… isn’t it wonderful?”
